Thinai paal kozhukatai / foxtail millet recipe

Usually we prepare Paal kozhukattai in white rice or with maida. But for a healthy substitute I replaced it with healthy foxtail millet(thinai arisi). It is good for diabetic patients and helps people those who are on diet to just have this sweet once in a while. But it was a mouth watering recipe. Everyone enjoyed it.

Instructions
  1. Thinai maavu bought from super market. If you want to prepare home made just roast the the Foxtail millet (Thinai arisi) and Grind it in a mixie.
  2. Take one cup thinai mavu for preparing kozhukattai. Add hot water little by little and knead dough.
  3. We are going to cook this little kozhukattai in idli cooker. So make small balls and place it in the plate with greased oil.
  4. Now I prepared kozhukatai from the knead dough. You can roll it in any shape of your choice.
  5. Place it in idli cooking vessel.
  6. Close lid and cook till its done.
  7. Meanwhile take 1 glass water in a vessel add remaining one cup thinai mavu and make paste by clean hands.
  8. The paste should be runnier.
  9. Take one coconut. Half for extracting milk and other half to grate and garnish.
  10. Grated coconut.
  11. Extracted coconut milk
  12. Meanwhile make jaggery syrup of 1 cup jaggery.
  13. Once the jaggery syrup is done strain it for impurities.
  14. Place a kadai and pour the paste we did with thinai maavu. Stir continously.
  15. Once it becomes little thick add jaggery syrup to it.
  16. Stir well to bind the jaggery well.
  17. Once the jaggery is bind well check for thickness. If its very thick add little water to it.
  18. Now add cooked kozhukatai to it and boil well as it already cooked it doesn't take much time.
  19. After 5 minutes add extracted coconut milk to it. After adding coconut milk do not boil for long time. Switch off once bubbles start to come.
  20. Roast grated coconut with 1 tsp ghee.
  21. Now add the roasted coconut to it and sprinkle 1/2 tsp cardamon powder and serve hot.
  22. Thinai paal kozhukatai is ready. Delicious !!!
