Saamai arisi sarkarai pongal recipe / Little millet sweet pongal

In the journey of weight loss and My in-laws doctors say no rice for them as they have diabetics we switched on to the traditional millets. Our ancestors ate these millet varieties in those days and stayed healthy without any illness for long. People are less popular to these millets.

The little millet may be called little but in no means its nutritional content is little. It is a rich source of B-vitamins, minerals like calcium, iron, zinc, potassium among others. It also provides essential fats to the body, the kind that helps in weight loss.

Samai arisi sarkarai pongal | Little millet sweet pongal
Instructions
  1. Take 1 cup samai arisi/Little millet and 1 cup moong dal.
  2. Add both to a pan in low flame.
  3. Dry Roast both in a pan till pale brown.
  4. Shift to a vessel to keep inside cooker add 5 cups water to it.
  5. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  6. In a pan add 1 glass water and 1 cup heaped jaggery and make syrup.
  7. Once the syrup has become thickened switch off the stove strain it and keep aside.
  8. In the same pan add ghee 1 tbsp add cashew and roast.
  9. Add raisins and saute well.
  10. Add grated coconut and roast in ghee.
  11. Transfer to a plate.
  12. Add cooked dal and rice in pan mash it well.
  13. Add jaggery syrup to it and mix well in low flame.
  14. Add roasted cashew, raisins and coconut to it mix well.
  15. Add edible camphor a little pinch, and cardamon powder a pinch and give a quick stir and switch off the stove.
  16. Samai Arisi Sarkarai pongal is ready to serve.
