Instructions
  1. Chop onion lengthwise. Wash curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  2. In a pan add 1 tsp oil or even less. Put mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  3. Once it starts spluttering add curry leaves and saute.
  4. Add chopped onion to it and saute for 30 secs.
  5. Add 1 tsp salt and give a quick stir.
  6. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and mix well.
  7. Mix everything well till it combine in low flame.
  8. Add 1 tsp pepper powder and give a quick stir.
  9. Close the pan with a plate and pour water above the plate. As shown below.
  10. The plate should cover the pan properly. Let it cook for 2 mins. After 2 mins open the pan and give a stir and again close the pan with the plate. The onion will cook now instead of frying in the oil. The onion will not burn when you do this procedure. Once the onion become glassy and cooked switch off the stove.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
  12. Pepper onion fry side dish for chapati is ready.
