Instructions
  1. Dry roast 2 tbsp groundnuts till brown color
  2. Cool down completely and grind to a coarse mixture and keep aside
  3. In a kadai or pan add 2 tsp oil and add 1 tsp mustard seeds wait till it splutters then add 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. Add 1 tsp urad dal and fry till light brown
  5. Add 2 - 3 red chilly chopped
  6. Add few curry leaves
  7. Add 1 onion chopped
  8. Fry till light brown color
  9. Add cleaned 2 handful of drumstick leaves. Choose leaves which is new one.
  10. Add 1/4 tsp salt. As the leaves will shrink and reduce to half the quantity do not add salt by swing the quantity before shrinking.
  11. Mix well till salt bind with the leaves. Some people will also add salt at the last.
  12. Sprinkle some water and cook. Do not add more water as the leaves itself have enough water to cook.
  13. Once the leaves got cooked it changes to dark color
  14. Add the ground mixture of peanuts. You can also replace groundnuts with grated coconuts.
  15. Mix well till the mixture binds well with the leaves
  16. Murungai keerai poriyal is ready to serve. Its the best side dish for sambhar rice or any karakuzhambu.
Recipe Notes

Important instructions to follow

  1. Choose drumstick leaves which is new one or light green in color
  2. Do not over cook the leaves as it loss the nutritional content
  3. Sprinkle less water do not add more water
  4. Add less salt if you add it in the beginning
  5. You can also add salt at the last
  6. You can also replace peanuts with grated coconuts
  7. If you want to add both add in lesser quantity it your wish
