Gokulashtami recipes – Easy Poha Ladoo or aval Ladoo. I prepared the recipe first time and came out very well. It’s so simple and easy to prepare it just taste awesome. Every one in my family and my colleague friends liked it very much. The Ladoo just melted in mouth just try it out this Krishna Jayanthi.

The main ingredients used are white Poha, roasted gram dal or pottukadalai, sugar, cardamon pods and dry fruits. This Poha Ladoo is easy to make and any one can prepare the steps are very simple. If you do not have time to do many items for neivedyam preparing this Poha recipe and offering god is very auspicious as lord Krishna like Poha very much.

There is a tale behind the reason which is a part of Bhagavata Puranam.

Lord Krishna’s childhood friend a brahmin named Sudama also known as kuchela called in south India. Sudama was from a poor family they did their schooling together and after moved on in their lives. Krishna became the king of Dwaraka whereas Sudama lives in his hometown a simple life. Sudama goes through bad times in his life. His wife insisted him to get help from lord Krishna his friend but he refused. But in no way he went to meet him. There is a custom in India that when we go to meet somebody we buy anything for them and do not go to meet in empty handed. But Sudama doesn’t have anything at his home except the Poha or beaten rice or aval so he packed it in a white cloth and went to meet Krishna. Krishna got surprised to meet his friend and treated him royally Sudama got inspired and forgot to ask him for what he came to meet him. Krishna asked Sudama what did he bring for him. He gave this Poha and Krishna happily got it from him and started having it.

Sudama returned back home and noticed that his house has transformed to rich ones house and wife and children wearing new clothes and he became very happy and extreme emotional feelings. He got everything for not being the friend of Krishna but because of his devotion to lord Krishna. And so Krishna likes Poha very much and it means you can offer Poha too to him in a true devotion and prayers.

Instructions
  1. take 1 cup cleaned and dust free Poha. Just remove dust by using a clean cloth.
  2. Add it to a pan and dry roast in low flame
  3. Once the Poha or aval is crispier switch off and cool completely.
  4. Take 1 cup fried gram dal
  5. Add it to a mixie jar and grind to powder
  6. Grind finely to smooth powder without dal blocks.
  7. Add fried Poha to the jar and grind again
  8. Now the Poha and gram dal mixture is ready.
  9. Take 1 cup sugar. Measure everything in the same measuring cup.
  10. Add it to a mixie jar and add 5 cardamon pods to it.
  11. Grind to fine powder. The aroma will be so good.
  12. Add the Poha and dal mixture to a pan
  13. Add sugar powder to the pan
  14. Add ghee and roast for 5 mins in low flame
  15. Do not burn then stir continuously. And switch off.
  16. Meanwhile fry cashews and raisins in 1 tsp ghee.
  17. Add it to the mixture and mix well.
  18. Add ghee little by little to the mixture and mix.
  19. Mix a part of the mixture with ghee finely. Use a spoon in this step.
  20. And start preparing ladoos while it is still hot. Otherwise it will not combine well.
  21. Transfer prepared ladoos to a plate
  22. Offer it to lord Krishna this Gokulashtami.
  23. Poha is lord Krishna s favourite food.
Recipe Notes

Important instructions to follow

  1. Fry Poha in low flame do not burn them
  2. Add the exact quantity Poha: dal: sugar 1:1:1
  3. Make fine and smooth powder do not grind as coarse mixture
  4. Don't skip to add cardamon it gives the Ladoo nice flavour
  5. Grinding sugar is compulsory otherwise sugar in the Ladoo you have to chew
  6. If you grind sugar the Ladoo just melts in mouth
  7. You can add dry fruits of your choice like almonds, cashews and raisins
  8. Mix the mixture with ghee and start preparing laddoo while it is still hot
  9. Otherwise the mixture will not combine properly to make ladoo
