Broken wheat chicken upma | Dalia chicken kichadi

People you wont believe this that am doing the dish the very first time with chicken. Usually we do kichadi like or brinji like with this broken wheat. But this time I tried it with chicken. It tastes very good and we all had it without any side dish. Please note while using broken wheat the water ratio must be correct other wise you wont get separated grains of wheat or it will become mushy which no one like to have. So kindly follow the instructions below to get the perfect Chicken and broken wheat upma.

Broken wheat chicken upma
Instructions
  1. Keep all things ready. Chop all veggies, clean chicken flesh and keep aside.
  2. In a heavy bottomed pan add 1 tbsp olive oil or any other oil its optional.
  3. Add chopped onion and saute well.
  4. Add bay leaves, cinnamon sticks and cloves and saute well.
  5. Add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste and saute well.
  6. Add green chillies cut lengthwise.
  7. 4 glass broken wheat, For easy understanding I have taken in 1 bowl.
  8. Add broken wheat now and saute well in oil till it become brown in color in medium flame.
  9. Add fresh mint leaves and mix well.
  10. Add chicken pieces and the chicken should be semicooked in the oil so saute well.
  11. After adding all ingredients the last must be the tomatoes. Other wise the upma will become mushy.
  12. Add 1 tsp salt or required
  13. We added one bowl broken wheat so take 2 bowl of water. The ratio is 1:2 (broken wheat : water).
  14. After adding required water check for salt add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
  15. Am going to pressure cook so transfer the contents to a vessel that fit the pressure cooker.
  16. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles while transfering the contents you may notice that there is no water in the mixture do not panic. This is the right method so that the upma will not be mushy.
  17. After the pressure subsides by itself open and serve. Broken wheat chicken upma is ready. If you want any side dish any gravy will suit.
